The use of sensory input is a critical component for everyday life. Sensory input helps an individual have health responses to daily life stressors. However, traumatized children, especially those in a residential facility, often lack the opportunity to take advantage of common sensory activities and need support.

This is the reason Brookhaven Treatment and Learning Center would like to build a sensory playground; but we need your help to do this.

Sensory play encourages scientific processes because problems are solved using the five senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. By stimulating their senses, it would support them in developing creatively, socially and emotionally, cognitively, linguistically and physically with the use of an outdoor sensory based playground. It also aids in the engagement of the neural pathways in their brain, decreasing emotional activation, aggression, and dysregulation; while further assisting in sensory and relational experiences which promote positive growth.

We are asking you to support our sensory playground initiative by making a monetary donation to Brookhaven
